fec candidate filings - Tether-Linked Super PAC’s $300,000 Spending Raises Conflict of Interest Concerns
Huo Xing Finance reports that on April 12, according to CoinDesk, a U.S. super PAC named Fellowship, linked to Tether, filed documents with the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC) showing its first expenditure of $300,000 went to Nxum Group—a company co-founded by Bo Hines, Tether’s U.S. CEO and former Trump administration crypto advisor, along with his father and a third-party partner. The funds were used to purchase campaign advertisements for Clay Fuller, a Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Georgia. On April 1 of this year, Fellowship appointed Jesse Spiro, Tether’s U.S. Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, as its chairperson. When the committee announced its formation last year, it was promised a total of $100 million in funding; however, FEC filings show the account balance is currently zero. Tether International stated it has no connection to Fellowship, while Tether U.S. declined to comment. Michael Beckel of the political reform organization Issue One noted that under U.S. campaign finance rules, it is not illegal for a super PAC to pay a company affiliated with its founders, provided the services are genuinely rendered and the rates align with market prices. Mitchell Nobel, Fellowship’s finance director, currently works at Cantor Fitzgerald, the firm responsible for managing Tether’s global business assets.Source:Show originalDisclaimer: The information on this page may have been obtained from third parties and does not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of KuCoin.
