SWIFT is exploring blockchain technology to enhance cross-border payments, including testing Ripple's XRP Ledger. Ripple has seen increased institutional interest through tokenized funds and the RLUSD stablecoin. The XRP Ledger offers a 3-5 second settlement time and is compatible with ISO 20022, aligning with SWIFT's modernization efforts. However, no formal partnership has been established, and SWIFT intends to remain neutral, considering XRP Ledger as one of several potential settlement options. Pilot integrations are anticipated between 2026 and 2027, following the complete transition to ISO 20022.
